Introducing Simone Williams ( The Designer )

The Simone Williams fashion label has been up and running since the summer of 2004 and is based in Hoxton, London. As a black British female establishing her unique vision in an already competitive market has been difficult but Simone is quick to encourage more African and Caribbean designers to break the mould and not follow the usual “urban” trend. “Haute Couture and high end fashion can be enjoyed not only in the upper echelons of the European community but also amongst the African and Caribbean Diaspora” states her Business partner, Ronke Lawal.

Her summer/autumn 2006 collection has a feminine look and is inspired by vibrant yet delicate flowers and the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe in her white, halter neck dress. Her new summer range is a blend of classic cuts and 50’s silhouette dresses with leather waist belts and other modern details. Using fly away erratic hems and layering of chiffon, Simone’s dresses symbolises the petals on a flower in full bloom.

Tennille White

Her rapid rise in the fashion world is attributed to not only her design skills, but also her gifted sewing ability. Ms. White personally creates numerous custom orders where she channels her energy and natural instincts by injecting breathtaking life into her own ideas. Tennille found her niche from regularly receiving specialized orders from women sized 12+. She has the knack for designing luxurious, yet comfortable contemporary clothing for women with curves. “I design pieces for everyday women that want to get noticed when they walk into a room,” Ms. White tells. Her versatile, colorful, and unique designs allow clients to exude a strong sense of confidence that encourages them to express their personality and flaunt their individuality. Clients find that Tennille’s line emphasizes a fresh infusion of realistic, colorful, and dynamic pieces.

Show Review: Rachel Roy Spring / Summer 2011

by Claire
Rachel Roy’s Spring/Summer 2011 presentation took place at 9:30 in the morning, arguably one of the earlier shows on the fashion week schedule. Thankfully, as soon as fashion lovers stepped their Louboutins into the presentation space at the Library of Performing Arts, they were jolted awake by cranberry, seafoam, and electric blue smart shifts and jackets.
This collection was worth waking up for:

Roy stuck to her signature sophisticated silhouettes–calf grazing shifts, roomy sarouel trousers, close fit cardigans–but turned up the volume with a generous color palette and the use of blended knits. Models teetered atop peep toe sandals with plexi criss cross straps, and eschewed large accessories in favor of minimalist sunglasses and skinny belts.
